1. Bhadla Solar Park , India

Installed Capacity: 2,245 MW
Location: Rajasthan, India

Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan, India is currently the largest solar power plant in the world. Covering a vast area of 14,000 acres, this facility has an installed capacity of 2,245 MW, making it the top solar plant worldwide. The solar plant is divided into four phases, with the first two phases developed by RSPDCL (Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company Limited), and the third and fourth phases developed by Saurya Urja Company of Rajasthan and Adani Renewable Energy Park Rajasthan, respectively.


2. Huanghe Hydropower Golmud Solar Park , China

Installed Capacity: 200 Megawatt
Location: Qinghai province, China

The Golmud Solar Park in Qinghai province, China is a 2200 MW solar power plant run by Huanghe Hydropower. Construction on the facility began in August 2009 and was completed in October 2011. The solar park has an installed capacity of 200 MW, and Yingli delivered 80 MW of power. This solar farm also has a storage capacity of 202.8 MW/MWh. In 2012, it won the China Quality Power Project Award. The government plans to increase this facility’s capacity to approximately 16 GW in the future.


3. Pavagada Solar Park ,India

Location: Karnataka, India

The Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka, India spans over 53 square kilometres (13,000 acres) and has an installed capacity of 2,050 MW. Completed in 2019, this solar park ranks third among all photovoltaic solar parks as of April 2021. The project’s overall cost was Rs. 14,800 crore ($2.1 billion). To carry out solar power projects in Karnataka, the Karnataka Solar Power Development Corporation Ltd (KSPDCL) was established in March of 2015 as a joint venture between the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The KSPDCL’s proposal to build a solar power park in Pavagada Taluk was approved by the Chairman of the State High-Level Clearance Committee (SLHCC) on October 29, 2015.

Location: Aswan Governorate, EGYPT

The Benban Solar Park in Aswan Governorate, Egypt, is the largest solar farm in Africa and the fourth-largest solar plant globally. With a total nominal capacity of 1650 MW, it produces an annual output of roughly 3.8 TWh. The New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) operates the Benban Solar Project. The plant’s construction was completed in November 2019 at a cost of approximately USD 4 billion.

Located in Ningxia, China, the Tengger Desert Solar Park covers an area of 43 km2 and has an installed capacity of 1,547 MW, making it the solar park with the highest peak electricity capacity in 2018. The China National Grid and Zhongwei Power Supply Corporation are responsible for running this solar park.

Location: Andhra Pradesh, India

The NP Kunta Ultra Mega Solar Park, also known as Ananthapuram – I Ultra Mega Solar Park or Kadiri Ultra Mega Solar Park, is a solar park covering a total area of 32 square kilometres (12 sq mi) in Nambulapulakunta Mandal of Kadiri Constituency in Kadiri Division of Sri Sathya Sai district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. As of 30 April 2021, 978.5 MW capacity was commissioned by four companies: Sprng Agnitra (250 MW), Ayana Solar (228.5 MW), SB Energy Solar (250 MW) and NTPC (250 MW)

The Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Power Station, located in Sweihan, close to Abu Dhabi, is the largest single-site solar power facility in the world, with an installed capacity of 1200 MW. The facility operates under the partnership between the government of Abu Dhabi and a group that includes Jinko Solar Holding of China and Marubeni Corp. of Japan. In September 2020, the facility generated a total of 2000 GWh with a 93% efficiency rate, providing electricity to 66,000 homes. Sterling and Wilson Solar, a solar energy contractor operating in India, commissioned the facility.

Location: Saih Al-Dahal, Dubai

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is one of the largest renewable energy projects in the world, with an installed capacity of 1013 MW. The solar park is located in Saih Al-Dahal, about 50 kilometers south of Dubai, covering a total area of 77 km2. The long-term project will also feature concentrating solar power in addition to solar farms using PV technology (CSP). The plant was implemented by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)

Location: Ningxia Hui Autonomous, China

The Ningxia Solar Park is one of the largest solar power plants in the world, with an installed capacity of 1000 MW. Located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of China, it covers an area of about 66.67 square kilometers (16,500 acres). The project was developed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and constructed in two phases, with the first phase of 500 MW completed in 2015 and the second phase of 500 MW completed in 2017.
